All fasteners, including those that are not manufactured in Australia must comply with Australian Standards. 
Fasteners shall be either,  hot dipped, electrically, or mechanically galvanized steel,  stainless steel or bright steel as specified in the Australian Timber Framing Code.
Fasteners used in exposed external situations must be either Hot Dip Galvanized or Stainless (Stainless only if used within 1 km of the coast line).
