To commemorate Seiko's 140th anniversary of their founding, Seiko has pledged to release a series of watch creations that embody the spirit of their founder Kintaro Hattori.
Hattori, who founded the company in 1881 at 21 years old, transformed the company during his fifty years at the helm into the juggernaut that it is today.
His vision that Seiko watches should 'always one step ahead of the rest' has encapsulated what the leading watch manufacturer has come to be known for.
Throughout this year, the celebrations start with a series of limited edition Prospex, Presage and Astron watch releases inspired by the landscapes, seascapes and cityscapes of Japan.
Today, we take a closer look at the limited edition Seiko Prospex SPD207J automatic divers watch and the SSC807J chronograph watch - available exclusively in store and online at Grahams!
Iriomote Island Design
One of these Seiko Prospex watches is a contemporary reinvention of Seiko's celebrated 1968 original diving watch while the other is a solar chronograph. The success of the 1968 divers watch pushed the boundaries of precision, durability and ease of use in watches for professional and recreational divers so it was important that they paid homage to it. And they certainly do.
With a sleek deep green watch face and a black bezel, theses piece are not to be missed. Inspired by the reefs, jungle, mangrove forests, beaches, rivers and waterfalls of the island of Iriomote in Japan, these stunning green designs are sure to stand out on the wrist. The island of Iriomote in Okinawa Prefecture attracts divers from all over the world so it was only right that the islands special charm was encapsulated in these watch designs. Further, Iriomote is home to several species of flora and fauna that are rare and, in some instances, unique to the island.
The wide hands and generously applied lumibite and anti-reflective coating on the inner surface provide both style and functionality. Each watch comes complete with a special box and an additional green silicon strap to compliment the stainless steel band and match the face.
The automatic is limited to 6,000 pieces worldwide while the chronograph is limited to 4,000 pieces worldwide and the case back is not individually numbered so be sure to get in quick!
Functionality
The Seiko Prospex SPB207J limited edition automatic 200 metres water resistant divers watch features a six-beat R35 calibre and a screw-down crown and case back. It is a 43.3mm watch with 70 hours of power reserve and an analogue display. It features a slimmer bezel and a contemporary design for its minute and hour hands.
Of course, the automatic movement is powered by the wearer but you can be sure that it has hand winding capability with hour, minute, seconds and date functionality. It is also worth noting that its accuracy is +25 -15 seconds a DAY (at normal temperature range (5'C and 35'C). Check out the video below for a quick look and unboxing.
The Seiko Prospex SSC807J 200 metres water resistance solar chronograph watch offers everything that we have come to love in quality Seiko chronograph watches. The main body size is 44.5 x 13.7 mm (outer diameter x thickness) and it comes complete with a V192 calibre.
With a screw-down crown, buttons and case back this is the ultimate dive chronograph watch. This ensures the safety of the divers from any accidental operations. It also includes a case design that has long been nicknamed "SUMO" by enthusiasts because of its reliable and elegant structure.
